In a recent statement, Sir (Chief) Tony Chidugam Okocha, KSC, JP, the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has stated that the revelation made by Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State, vindicates the party's earlier position on the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the root cause of the political crisis in the state.
Okocha asserted that "truth is immutable" and that the public revelation made by Dr. Nwaeke, who was the number 3 man in the state at the time, has corroborated the APC's accusation that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was the brain behind the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The APC Chairman recalled that the party, through its "irrepressible State Chairman, Sir (Chief) Tony C. Okocha, DSSRS, JP," has been accusing Fubara of being the mastermind behind the bombing, which occurred on October 29, 2023, and the subsequent demolition of the assembly complex, which he personally supervised.
Okocha further noted that the Supreme Court's unanimous judgment, which described Fubara as a "Dictator," has been validated by Dr. Nwaeke's explosive revelation. According to Nwaeke, the governor directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to carry out the attack on the Assembly complex to prevent his impeachment by lawmakers aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike.
The APC Chairman stated that Dr. Nwaeke's account, which includes witnessing a cash handover to Ehie for the purpose of the attack, is an eye-witness account that has vindicated the APC's position as the only visible and viable opposition political party in the state.
Okocha expressed the APC's belief that the relevant security agencies will be professional enough to get to the root cause of the matter and make it public. He also warned that the verbal attacks staged against the resigned Head of Service will not deter the APC from functioning as watchdogs on this matter.
