In a strategic move to address the welfare and security concerns of the people, the Sole Administrator of Degema Local Government Area, Dr. Sokari Ibifuro Francis, LSN, Amb. of Peace, recently held an interactive session with key stakeholders in the area.

The event, which took place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, was graced by the presence of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, His Excellency, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), who was represented by the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.

During the meeting, the Rivers State Sole Administrator through his representative pledged to prioritize the welfare and security of the people of Degema LGA. He emphasized the importance of inclusive collaboration between the local government, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of peace in the communities and the protection of national assets.

The Chairman of the Degema Council of Traditional Rulers HRM (Rt. Hon) King Agolia Cookey Aboko Benebo reiterated the support of the traditional rulers in securing government infrastructure. He also appealed to the Rivers State Sole Administrator for more military formations in the area to enhance security.

Speaking on behalf of the Community Development Committees (CDCs), the CDC Chairman of Ogurama Community, Mr. Charles Brown, requested clarification on the progress of the Trans-Kalabari road project, which is a major concern for the people.

The Youth President of Tombia, Mr. Owen Igbikialabo, speaking on behalf of the youth bodies, appealed for sustainable employment, skills development, and basic education for the youth and children in the area. He also raised concerns about the prolonged kingship tussle in Tombia community, which has hindered development.

The Woman Leader of Bukuma Community, Dr. Amb. Tuamara Amagboroju, representing the women leaders, appealed for the provision of electricity, water, staff welfare, and the security of schools in the area.

In response, the Sole Administrator of Degema LGA, Dr. Sokari Ibifuro Francis, highlighted the progress made by his administration, including the provision of electricity to several communities, the replacement of broken poles and stolen conductors, the payment of workers' salaries, and the engagement of volunteer teachers.

Dr. Sokari expressed his appreciation to the Rivers State Sole Administrator for the interactive session and reiterated his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity and youth restiveness in the area. He also appealed for the presence of security in Bakana community and a police station in Ke to address the security challenges.

The event was attended by several key officials, including the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, representatives from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, as well as permanent secretaries from the Rivers State Ministries of Health and Education.
