In an ongoing recruitment exercise, the Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to recruit no fewer than 30,000 youths. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, confirmed this development. It was revealed that over 400,000 Nigerians submitted applications for the police constable job within a six-week period.

The recruitment exercise is set to commence on Monday, January 8, with physical and credential screening of successful applicants taking place across the nation. Arase emphasised to the commission's staff that their actions during this process would have lasting repercussions, shaping the perception and legacy of the commission. He urged them to uphold professionalism and integrity and to be aware of the significance of their role.

To ensure efficiency and transparency, the Police Service Commission is establishing a situation room at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. Arase highlighted the importance of this recruitment exercise, as it is the first conducted by the commission since the Supreme Court affirmed its exclusivity in recruiting for the Nigeria Police Force.

Arase warned the commission's staff against soliciting or accepting money from applicants, ensuring that severe disciplinary actions, including possible termination of employment, would be taken against those found engaging in such behavior. He emphasised the need for the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct throughout the duration of the exercise.

As the recruitment portal closed in December, it was revealed that 416,270 youths met the initial requirements for the next stage of the process. Of these, 315,065 were eligible for the general duty category, while 101,205 qualified for the specialist cadre. Kaduna State had the highest number of successful applicants, followed by Adamawa, Benue, and Borno.
