The Abia State Police Command apprehended a freelance journalist on charges of allegedly sodomising a teenage boy in the Obingwa area of the state. The police received a report on January 1, 2024, regarding the incident, which involved the suspect identified as Chigozie and a 15-year-old boy. The state police public relations officer, Maureen Chinaka, stated that discreet investigations are underway and that the matter will be taken to court.
Sources indicate that the 37-year-old suspect, who resides in the Eastern Ngwa division, is not an employee of any radio station but works as a freelance journalist on radio stations based in Aba. The arrest of Chigozie took place on December 31, 2023, at his residence following a complaint lodged by the victim's father at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station.
According to the victim's account, the suspect took him to a location near a hotel in Aba and offered him bread, which he refused. Allegedly, the suspect slapped the teenager, causing him to fall on the bed and fall asleep. The victim woke up the next morning with pain in his anus. When he confronted the suspect about what had occurred, the man threatened to kill him if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
Chigozie is currently held in custody at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station while the investigation continues.
