Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People's Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has praised Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former Transportation Minister and two-time Governor of Rivers State, for his remarkable contributions to the development of the Lekki Deep Sea Port project. The recent arrival of the largest container ship in Nigerian waters has brought fresh attention to Amaechi's legacy.
Chief Eze emphasised that Amaechi's expertise in the mechanics of the Nigerian economy has made a significant impact on the country's socio-economic challenges. The berthing of the largest container carrier at the Lekki Deep Sea Port is an outcome of the bilateral trade template established by the former Minister and the efforts of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
In 2022, Amaechi highlighted the projected economic benefits of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, estimating a contribution of $360 billion over the years. He also mentioned plans to construct the Bonny deep-sea port and connect the Lekki port to a rail line.
The Lekki Deep Sea Port, initiated by Amaechi during his tenure, is nearing completion and is expected to bring about $200 billion to the government exchequer and provide employment opportunities for 170,000 young people. The port will not only increase the container throughput capacity of the western Nigerian port complex but also promote infrastructure growth through the construction of highways, railways, and aviation networks.
Chief Eze remarked that Amaechi's visionary leadership has positioned him as an outstanding patriot and legend of this generation. He expressed admiration for Amaechi's accomplishments and called for Nigeria to support leaders with similar vision and patriotism.
