In a recent development, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a warrant for the arrest of Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor. He is allegedly involved in the burning of the state House of Assembly. The court has also ordered the arrest of Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict, Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri, and Chibuike Peter, also known as Rambo, for their alleged participation in criminal activities.

The incident in question occurred on October 30, 2023, when an explosion rocked the complex of the state assembly. This took place amid purported attempts by some lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. It has been alleged that loyalists of the governor were behind the incident.

It is worth noting that Chime Ezebalike, Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod were remanded by Justice Bolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja last week on similar charges. They were accused of committing terrorism offences by invading, vandalising, and burning down the Rivers State House of Assembly during the political crisis in Port Harcourt in October last year.

Although Edison Ehie's name was mentioned in relation to the case, he was not listed as one of the defendants. However, an ex-parte application filed by the Inspector General of Police included Ehie and five others as defendants. The application was based on various sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the Police Act 2020. The defendants are accused of conspiracy, arson, terrorism, attempted murder, and the murder of a superintendent of police and five other police informants.

In response to the ex-parte application, Justice Emeka Nwite issued a warrant for the arrest of Ehie, Bala, Benedict, Joseph, Oyagiri, and Chibuike on Wednesday. The judge granted the application, stating, "That an order of this Honourable Court is hereby made issuing a warrant of arrest against Ehie, Bala, Benneth, Joseph, Oyagiri, and Chibuike (aka Rambo), fleeing defendants in the case."

This news comes as a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly. The court's order for the arrest of a former lawmaker, who is now working as the Chief of Staff to Governor Fubara, highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
