It is not new but a reminder that on Sunday 21st
of February, 2018, the overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare
announced in a church service that nothing can ever stop him from taking over
from President Muhammedu Buhari as the next president of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria.
These were his
speech:
“Take it to the mountain top, if you have never heard it
before, I am saying it to you this morning, in the scheme of things as far as
politics of Nigeria are concerned, President Muhammedu Buhari is number fifteen
and I am number sixteen”.
“I never said that to you before, I will be making it plain
this morning that nothing can stop it”.
“For this end was I called and for this purpose was I sent into
the world. God has prepared me for this, more than 30 years. That is why when
Buhari wanted to run for president for 2019, I didn’t oppose because, he still
remain number 15 while am number 16”.
“President Buhari assignment is that of Moses to take
Nigeria to River Jordan but, he cannot cross it. It will take a Joshua to go to
the other side and to begin to distribute resources to the people of this
nation”.
Earlier, Bakare has claimed that “many pastors in Nigeria
get away with fake prophecies because their followers often do not hold them
accountable”.
This statement has raised critical attention for his statement
about him becoming the 16th President of Nigeria, as some quarters of the public
now said; “it is a prophecy that must be accounted for”.
Who is Pastor Tunde
Bakare?
Bakare was born on 11 November 1954 in Abeokuta, Ogun State,
Nigeria. He attended All Saints Primary School, Kemta, Abeokuta and
subsequently Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, after which he studied law at the
University of Lagos between 1977 and 1980. He was called to the Bar in 1981 and
following his NYSC, he practiced law with Gani Fawehinmi Chambers, Rotimi
Williams & Co and Burke & Co, Solicitors. He established his own law
firm Tunde Bakare & Co (El-Shaddai Chambers) in October 1984.
Just like most influential Pastors in Nigeria, Bakare was
born a Muslim, but converted to Christianity in 1974
Pastor Tunder Bakare was reportedly arrested in March 2002 after
preaching sermons critical of then-president Olusegun Obasanjo.
In 2011, Pastor Tunde lost Presidential election as the running
mate to Muhammedu Buhari, the current president of Nigeria.
Before accepting to be a running mate to Buhari in 2011, Bakare
claimed in a sermon in 2006 that Muhammadu Buhari would be a bad leader for
Nigeria.
