A Nigerian doctor has raised alarm that many men are being deceived into raising children that are not biologically theirs without knowing it.
Taking to Twitter, Doctor Adams Adeyi narrated who a woman who gave birth to a child who has the sickle cell disease and begged the medical personnel not to tell her husband. He advised men to take DNA test seriously, that it has become very important to take DNA test at the birth of a child.
He wrote:
“3 out of 10 Nigerian men are not biological fathers of their children. Nigeria has the 2nd highest rate of paternity fraud in the world after Jamaica. Many men have been unknowingly raising children that are not theirs & to curb the trend, DNA test should be considered at birth.
“A child was brought in by the mother with a PCV of 8%. We discovered that the child has Sickle Cell Disease. I informed the mother & asked her to come with the father so that I can counsel them together. She begged me not to tell the ‘father’ who is AA. Guys, DNA test is a must!”
