The flag off of June 16 local government election which held at the liberation stadium, Rivers State, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state have kicked off campaign and presentation of flags to 23 local government chairmanship candidates.
In his speech, the executive governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Chief Barr. E.N Wike have urged the aspirants to popularize themselves in their various LGA and enlighten the people and tell them what they will do for them if they vote them into power. He also warned there will be no rigging of the local government election, he also warned them not to rely on party or state projects but to work hard as well as mobilize people for the party, he said the party will kick out dormant candidates without compromise.
Continuing, the governor used the medium to call on Nigerians irrespective of their religion to work in unity to foster the progress of the nation.
On his part, the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus said Nigerian youths must take the front role and that is why they have initiated a plat form to groom and mentor them to take over because Nigerian youths are digital, strong, innovative, resourceful energetic and enterprising.
Also, Hon. Engr. Samuel Nwanosike said if voted in as the chairman of Ikwerre local government chairman, his core mandate will be to restore absolute security in the local government, redevelop and rehabilitate the markets in Ikwerre LGA, improve the agriculture system to a mechanized system in the LGA, rehabilitate recreational areas and ensure that the staffs of Ikwerre local government council are diligent with their jobs and stand out as the best in the state
