A peaceful protest demonstrated by the surveillance contractors forum Rivchapter, over the non payment of salaries for seven months by AITEO exploration and production company, which took place at the companies entrance point at woji G.R.A phase 2, port harcourt.

Speaking to newsmen, elder sunday Odonebo, the chairman of AITEO surveillance contractors forum rivers state, stated "we the surveillance contractors of AITEO have been deceived severally, despite several effort through written letters to the management of the company demanding our payment have been futile.

We started this job with SPDC who acquired our land. We are stakeholders with SPDC, we  contributed land through government to SPDC to build their facilities; spdc in turn engaged us to take care of their facilities to empower us, because their facilities are installed within our domain. Their pipeline that is pushing crude oil from Bayelsa to Bonny terminal, passing through our land in Kalabari. SPDC, handed over the facilities to AITEO since 2015, and since 2015 they have been adamant over renewing our contract with them. We have written letters of audience to them severally, but all letters have been ignored. So our  purpose of coming here is for a peaceful demonstration, to demand our debts and to also renew our contract.

Our workers are suffering in the community, because of the non payment of salaries; this money is for community workers, it is for empowerment which spdc gave us. So AITEO should pay us our money.

Also, on his part the director of Jibs logistics and general service limited, Mr. Okis George, who is also a surveillance contractor to AITEO E and P said because job services have been rendered, salaries should be paid; he stated that" a labourer is worthy of his wages" and therefore called on the entire management of the company to pay off their (surveillance contractors ) salaries.

Amonia K. Amachiri,  an indigenous surveillance contractors of AITEO, has also lend his in the protest, to call on the necessary authorities to intervene in the matter, " because the community and the workers are suffering ".

According to Mr. Amakiri, he said the forum had written to JTF Bayelsa who in turn called the management of AITEO for a meeting, but AITEO E and P did not show up, he said the forum had also written to the rivers state commissioner for police as well as the rivers state governor to intervene.
