The People of Kalabari Kingdom sacrificially supported Gov. Nyesom Wike in the 2015 general election, even as some segments of the people yearned reasonably for development in the area and for the enthronement of Kalabari governor in Rivers State.

It was a total disappointment as several attempts by the PDP members and stalwarts of Kalabari’s LGA demands and protests for a free and fair election by them to choose candidates that will protect the interest of the people  was truncated by the governor’s decision to impose contestants by any means possible. It was indeed sad news for the PDP family in Rivers State as the strength and grassroots’ mobilizer of the PDP in the Kalabari Kingdom, Hon. Amb. Sobomabo Jackrich, Chairmanship aspirant for Asari Toru Local Government Area for the upcoming June 16th Local Government election was not spared.

According to a report, Hon. Sobomabo Jackrich was persuaded to contest and win for the ASALGA chairmanship position by PDP stalwarts, chiefs, elders, women, youths, and NGOs alike, especially, the most formidable socio-political group that is made of over 93,000 Kalabari indigence in Kalabari Kingdom, Kengema Unity Forum (KUF), Network for Defense of Democracy and Good Governance (NDDGG), Volunteers for Democratic Movement (VDM), Disable but Able Association of ASALGA (DAAA), Fisher Men and Women Association of ASALGA (FIMWAA) etc. Other organizations also joined the campaign train of Egberipapa as teeming supporters after he made a declaration of his interest to contest and govern the affairs of the L.G.A in a way and manner in which it benefits the people and residents of the area, few of such groups include; The ASEDECO, PDP National Youths and students Assembly, PDP Strategic Initiative (PSI) and many others.

Our correspondents gathered that the state governor deliberately refused the aspirants to decide by showcasing their popularity and support by playing neutrality in the primaries for the interest of solidity of the party. Sadly, the PDP's primaries for Asari Toru Local Government Area, scheduled to hold at Buguma, headquarter of the LGA was forcefully relocated to the Civic Centre, Moscow Road in Port Harcourt through the decision of the governor in other to impose contestant of his choice over the will of the people.

Our reporter further added that Gov. Wike earlier accepted to recognize the current zoning formula that is aimed at ensuring harmony among the communities and wards of the LGA but later turn down the demand by the chiefs, elders and the masses of the LGA by imposing Chief Odiari whose political affiliation falls under the group, ward and family that are not beneficiaries to the zoning for June 16th LG polls.

Scene of activities within the ASALGA territory from the 23rd until 25th of April 2018 before the composition of this report indicates that ASALGA PDP was in a mournful mood, in addition, the majority of them who spoke with our corresponded claimed that the people’s mandate had been stolen from them by the activities of foreign elements whose purpose and aim are driven by selfish desire.

“Should one man because of his interest to decide what and which project to execute and how to share our L.G.A location insults the Kalabari by changing the venue for party’s primary to a different L.G.A?” - Elder Datonye Princewill asked.

“This is sad, I am a lover of the PDP. It is very bad and strange to say that as indigence of ASALGA, we are not allowed to vote or to choose the candidates, we believed would serve our interest.”

“We know who exactly can be bold to defend our territory and citizens, we are aware of politicians that passionate in everything that will create peace in our land, we were prepared to choose who will defend the PDP in the stormy season. But why the imposition of a candidate, why?” - Albert Tom Wokoma

“As the good people of ASALGA found solace in silence over the imposition of Chief Odiari to people, the opposition Party in the LGA is celebrating ahead of their victory over the PDP in the Kalabari Kingdom for the 2019 general election, If not for Egberipapa, we wouldn't have been celebrating PDP in ASALGA outside talking about it extinction. I remain to follow as Amb. Sobomabo leads”... Enemi Daniel.

At the point when many observers expected the brain behind the victory of PDP within the three L.G.A that makes up Kalabari Kingdom, the political figure recognized by the people as the philanthropist, empowerment machine, the political guru, Hon. Amb. Sobomabo Jackrich to employ the force of resistance, the pioneer aspirant swiftly took a commendable decision by making a withdrawal and the instruction of his followers to remain loyal to the decision made by the party leaders.

Across the social media network, several posts have made by supporters of the PDP in appreciating the decision of Hon. Sobomabo to do the needful that has averted the unknown within the L.G.A and the state because of his passion for building peace.

“The heavy-weight among the contestants was Hon. Sobomabo Jackrich, ask me why? Because Egberipapa is interested in taking good care of the less privileged, the elderly, the youths and he is not greedy, as it is in the case of Odiari Princewill. If Egberi grumbles the youths will grumble, yet, such a leader because of the love he has for his people, honourably withdrew from the race”...Biobele Adokiye

“Egberi Papa is a charismatic leader, a commander of peace and a fearless warrior. The instruction from him for his supporters to obey the decisions of the party leader is a clear indication that he is a born leader. He may have a weakness as we all have including the likes of Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Ken Saro Wiwa, just to mention but a few while they were on earth, but the unnecessary defamation of his character and the blackmail of his personality to others for the purpose of securing favour from people by political beggars are fast becoming a threat to peace in our land and it is, therefore, mortgaging the strength of our party, the PDP for subsequent elections.” - Christiana Tima Duke

Several posts were made in the public domain to preen the peacemaker, Egberipapa with accolades for his decision to stand firm on his objectives in politics.

"Leader (Hon. Sobomabo Jackrich), we thank God for his abundant mercies upon you and the teeming followers across the state nay Nigeria.  I'm abreast with all that happened at home. I strongly believe that as in His (God's) immutable word “all things happened for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose”.

"Yes, the community is in a sorrowful mood, but we shall rejoice the fullness of time and our joy will be full."  I trust you'll not attend that gathering of failures called by Wike because You Are a Success Story- Your path is from above. You shall wax stronger and confound them. The Lord is your strength. I arrived the US safely under intense pressure but the Lord is in charge."

"My regards and Respect to all our gallant supporters as they meet tomorrow to discuss the synopsis of the past week and chart a new beginning. The good Lord is a light upon our path and a light onto our feet. Remain blessed." --Theodore Erekosima
