The Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology ASUP Chairman, Comr. Promise Igoma, has confirmed that the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology will be joining
the ASUP national strike which will commence on the 13th on November, 2017.
Briefing Newsmen in Port Harcourt, Comr. Promise said
We are part of ASUP and we don't expect to disobey the national directive but the governor of rivers state is magnanimous to the college, all we requested from him he has approved and under normal circumstance we are not suppose to join the strike, but as part of the national body, we will obey them, but we will appeal to them if they can excuse us, that is our situation.
The Comrade further disclosed that ASUP is going on strike because the agreement
that was reached with the federal government on certain issues, ranging
from non implementation of the needs assessment report, the short fall
of personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances of academic staffs of
polytechnics and colleges, conditions of state owned institutions and
non release of CONTISS 16 migration , non passage of the amendment bills
of the polytechnic ACT by the National Assembly and infractions in the
appointment of Rectors and Provost of Colleges at the State and Federal
levels, also continuous victimization of Union Officers of ASUP at all
levels of the Federal Polytechnics and Colleges at the State Owned Polytechnics and Colleges are basically the reason for the current strike.
