The Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside says despite going through difficult times since Independence, the country has remained one and is beginning to make sure and steady progress under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
Felicitating with Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s 57th Independence anniversary, Dr Peterside says the last two years may have been challenging, but was quick to add that the policies, measures and decisions by the Federal Government were already yielding fruits, with the country’s economy out of recession and agriculture now occupying the front burner for the first time in decades.
He praised the resilience and patience of Nigerians, who he says endured the difficult times before giving their mandate to President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rescue the nation from her drift and provide credible leadership.
The NIMASA boss stressed further that the present administration has been toiling day and night to create a conducive environment for Nigerians to express their God-given talents and thrive in a secure nation.
According to him, “President Buhari and his team have been working assiduously to revitalise all aspects of the nation’s economy, improve security and give Nigerians a sense of belonging. We may not be where we wish to be but we are indeed making progress.”
The NIMASA boss called on Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic and religious backgrounds to have faith in the unity of the country, insisting that the nation will be greater together if all grievances are channelled through the right avenues.
“We must not let our grievances divide us. Like in every relationship, there are bound to be challenges but our ability to resolve all our differences will make us stronger and better. This country is greater together and we can make it work in line with our hopes and aspirations,” he stressed.
